Opening on Heritage Day at the Florence B. Dearing Museum was an exhibit featuring Florence Dearing, her family, and some of the first artifacts donated. In 1958 Mrs. Dearing reached out to the community and began collecting artifacts for a museum that would tell the rural history of the Hartland area. In 1961 the museum was named in her honor. At other locations around the village, basket weaving, rug hooking, wood carving, and candle and broom making were being demonstrated. The 5th Michigan Regiment Band presented a concert in the Hartland Music Hall.
